Black and White Ball – What a Night!

The Rosnay Table

Last night Richard, Sam and Simone Statham, along with 7 other family and friends, had the honour of attending the 74th Black and White Ball at the Sydney Four Seasons Hotel, as official wine sponsors. The Black and White Ball is an Australian tradition which begn in 1936 and which has for 74 years raised money for Vision Australia, the leading provider of blindness and low vision services in Australia. Many of the features of the first Ball were still featured last night:Attendance by high society and politicians (among whom Bronwyn Bishop), and awards for the best dressed ladies.

We congratulate the the Black and White Committee of women who have voluntarily raised more than four million dollars for Vision Australia (formerly the Royal Blind Society) through fundraising events. Susan Diver, the current committee President, did a great job organising the night and introducing us to so many lovely people. The entertainment highlight of the night for us was the Black and White Derby, or indoor horse race in which model horses are reeled across the ballroom floor by ballroom-gowned ladies complete with racing commentary and cheers from the crowd. The Derby tradition dates back to 1956! We all had a great night and would recommend next year’s Ball to anyone wanting to support a good cause and have a glamorous night out.

In addition to organic wine, we are donating a weekend at the Rosnay cottage to the attendees of the 2010 Black and White Ball and the Black and White November Luncheon. To be in the running for this prize please just use the comments box at the bottom of this post to tell us, what the Black and White Ball means to you.
